The father of Cash Gernon — the 4-year-old boy who was kidnapped and killed in Texas — said he’ll never forgive himself for leaving the tragic tot behind with his ex-girlfriend.

Trevor Gernon broke his silence over Cash’s May 15 death in a statement posted to his sister’s YouTube account.

“This choice I made with best intentions has resulted in the most horrific outcome I have paid the ultimate and painful price for my poor judgment I have to live with this every day I will never forgive myself,” Trevor Gernon said. “This is a nightmare.”

Gernon said he left his twin boys, Cash and Carter, in Dallas with his ex Monica Sherwood because he “thought it was in the boys’ best interest to not disrupt their routine” when he moved back to Houston.

“They were comfortable, around other kids and [from] what it appeared, Monica was a trustworthy person,” he said.

Gernon then apologized to Melinda Seagroves, the boys’ mother, for failing to keep their son out of danger.

“I understand how Mindy and Connie [Cash’s maternal grandmother] could be upset and want to do and say things to me because he was in my care,” he said.

“If it had happened in my care, I’d hold her responsible too. Mindy, I am so sorry that I failed to keep him safe. That was my job as a dad and I wasn’t able to do that. I’m sorry.”

Sherrod previously told reporters that Gernon left town after being ordered by a court to go to rehab.

The dad has numerous arrests on his record and served more than two months in jail for assaulting his father in 2018, the Daily Beast reported.

He was also wanted on an open warrant stemming from a failure to appear in court in March on felony drug possession charges, the outlet reported.

“I have to fear for my freedom, as it is the goal of some to see me go to jail rather than grieve the loss of my little boy,” Gernon said in the video.

Darriyn Brown, 18, is charged in Cash’s kidnapping after the little boy was found dead in a Dallas street wearing a pair of shorts. Police said he was stabbed multiple times with an “edged weapon.”
