Border Patrol agents took down ten convicted sex offenders who crossed into the United States illegally over a seven-day period ending Monday, officials announced Wednesday.

All ten arrests took place in the Del Rio sector, an area covering south-central Texas. Eight of those arrested are Mexican nationals, while the other two are originally from Honduras.

The perps’ convictions include charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a child, sexual assault of a child under 14, sexual assault of a child, sexual assault, sexual conduct with a person under 13, and statutory rape.

“The majority of these criminals were apprehended in our sector’s most remote areas, attempting to avoid detection by crossing far from populated areas,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II said in a statement. “Our agents’ sign cutting and tracking skills were instrumental in capturing these criminals, preventing them from infiltrating our communities.”

According to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), agents in the Del Rio sector have arrested 95 convicted sex offenders since Oct. 1, a whopping 3,166 percent increase over the same timeframe 12 months ago.

The massive influx of illegal immigrants at the southern border shows little sign of slowing down, despite Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas repeatedly insisting that the “border is closed.”

Over the weekend, video footage captured by Fox News showed dozens of illegal immigrants sprinting across the border pursued by a single agent.

In March, Biden put Vice President Kamala Harris in charge of addressing border issues, telling reporters she was the “most qualified person” to handle the crisis. However, Harris has yet to visit the border region and has no plans to do so, according to White House press secretary Jen Psaki.

“I expect she will make a trip to the Northern Triangle at some point soon,” Psaki told reporters Monday. “So that would be where she would travel given her purview.”

Meanwhile, Mayorkas told The Washington Post in an interview published Tuesday that he was planning “significant changes” to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) though he declined to elaborate on what those changes would be.
